Fossil Cards

Create some fossil fun with our Fossil Cards!  There are 12 timber cards in the set featuring the skeleton of a leaf, seahorse, frog, crocodile, goanna, shell, Koala, emu, fish, platypus, kangaroo, and whale. Cover with paper and colour with crayons to create some skeletal art work or bury in the sand and uncover with a brush creating your very on fossil dig.  Children will be entertained for hours with this amazing little set!

This set comes with it own small brush and packaged in an organza drawstring bag.

Educational Applications

Individual

Use a sand tray at the art area, encourage the child to bury the fossil cards then carefully using the brush dig for them in the sand to emulate an actual fossil dig. Engage in conversation about what he/she is finding in the sand, and discuss where real fossils can be found today and how they are uncovered. Promotes patience, caution and a calmness.

Group Setting

Art group activity, could extend on the sustainability and look for natural resources to play such as sand, dirt, or make your own sand by crushing rocks. Then bury your fossil cards ready for a group dig. Great for open discussions about animals and plantlike. 

Outdoors

Take out to the sand pit with little brushes and bury them get the children to carefully dig for the cards in the sand, identifying each card as they uncover them. Promote reading and letter recognition by asking the children to read the name of each card.

Learning Opportunities 

Develops fine motor skills, develop creative skills such as inventiveness thinking and imagination. Communication skills by discussing what they have found, turn taking skills in sharing the brush and promoting team work.

Every piece of wood used is slightly different in colour, texture and grain. The naturally occurring imperfections seen in the timber (e.g knots, colour changes, etc) cannot be removed. These pieces of timber are cut on an engraver and will have slight burnt marks on the edges on some sides
